Sinusitis is the inflamation of the paranasal sinuses due to infection. These are hollow air spaces in the skull surrounding the nose. Each sinus opens into the nose permitting free flow of air and mucous into the nose. When there is swelling in the nose, the opening of the sinus may get blocked, trapping air and other secretions in them. This creates pressure on the sinus walls causing intense pain. Also because the mucous secretions cannot drain away, bacteria may multipy in these enclosed spaces causing infection and fever. Use of the Neti Pot / Netti Pot drains the nasal passages, prevents bacteria from multiplying and is extremely effective in the management of sinusitis.
